It is 2026 and I have gone back to a basic wired gigabit network at home and the results have surprised me. I am having a much better time after ditching a mixed wi-fi and wired networking to a fully wired network! Throughput is way up, latency is way down and the wired devices, which are substantially lower in number perform way better as well. I am surpised by the results and while it wasn’t fun to route 50m of cable it was well worth it. Also took the chance to move my homelab into a new rack and hide them away with a UPS into a hidden area so less noise…
Well worth it, and the increased speed is very nice too! Next upgrade will be to a 2.5g network as I made sure the cables were good enough! All good here, and I’m enjoying the much better setup!
